Came across this web site on the MM site from threads being posted by the woman restoring a Mini. It would appear she just put it on its side. I have heard some using and resting the body on an old bed mattress. Just be sure you do not start it on fire while welding. I would do one side at a time. You may want to put some bracing in also. I hopes this site helps. http://www.engr.colostate.edu/~id/restoration.html Otherwise, I am about (in the next couple of months) to do the same think on a 61 Morris Mini, replacing the floor. I am in the process of building a rotisserie. Good Luck

I have done it on my Mini 73, cause in Ecuador the climatic situation is perfect for the rust. so i have it changed one year ago and done the work one side at time, and also after finishing the work, to seal it inmediatly specially the welding, to prevent the rust and start over work. Now finally i get the original ones.

Floor panels
I bought my Mini in september, he failed the inspection for the same problem but just in the left side (driver side). I bought a complete and original repairing panel in one mini specialist store I spend around 20euros on the panel and around 35euros on the aplication. On minispares store you have this panels. Diogo

respray
Id say around £800 to £1000 would be a fair price for a tidy profesional job aslong as the car is reasonably sound, thats allowing for rust in the usual places i.e: a-panels,scuttle,front panel, rear valance etc,but expect to pay quite a bit more if the doors, boot floor, inner 1/4 panels and floor need work.best to ask someone with experience of restoring minis to check it over before you start spending on it because more often than not its a cheaper option to use the money you would spend on the body to buy a much newer mini, hope this advice is helpful

Floor pan replacing?
I'd like to echo Lefthooker's query: Can anyone direct me to a website instructing me how to replace Mini's floor (and body) panels?

Rear of Rear Sub-frame Mounting Welding - Load On or Off?
Hello, Can anyone give me any general advice on this repair please?
But specifically regarding: The new “Floor to wheel arch bracket” (part# 14A6609) fits well under load (i.e. wheel on ground) but the valance mounting panels has a great big gap between it and the boot floor. If I take the load off: the valance mounting bracket/boot floor gap closes but the floor to wheel arch bracket does not fit at all well. Both the valance and its bracket are very sound. I also have to fit new panel called “Boot side repair panel” (part# MS24R) MiniSpares photo below.

rusty floor!
My personal opinion is that the non-genuine panels are fine for everything except Concours rebuilds. Certainly on areas like the floors and sills, where you're never going to see it again, it's pointless spending the extra money.

Petrol Caps - Vented & Non Vented
Well, my 63 Cooper has a small plastic breather pipe, that is fitted to the top of the petrol tank, and runs down the back of the rear seat panel and out through a hole in the boot floor, so it doesn't need a vented cap - though I can't see any reason not to fit one because if that breather pipe gets blocked then you're in trouble. I think the breather was removed on later cars (can't get into the boot of my 88 to check) but I suspect it was still there in 67. Just open the boot and have a look.

Somerford Minis
Anyone had any body work done here? What's their work/prices like? I've got a shell that needs a rear quarter, wheel arch and boot floor replacement as well as a door hingle panel and while I don't want to pay the earth for it, I'd rather pay a bit extra to not have to do it again in two years like some places.

Front Tower Bushes
I think you'll have to undo the subframe to floor mounting bolts as well, and possibly the subframe to front panel mounting bolts, but in theory you should only have to lift the body about 1 inch off the subframe to get at the rubber bushes that sit on top of the towers.

ARGHHHHHH - Where do I start
when replacing panels i recomend that you concentrate getting all the floor, wheelarches, sills etc. done before you start to even think about doing any work on the outside like the wings and doors etc. and it will probably be worse than it looks at first glance.

Rust!!
Hi all, I know there are many posts about rust but Ive replaced about 13 panels in my car...including...entire front end, inner and outer sills, door skins, boot floor, rear valance, a-panels etc etc. In the floorpan at the front were the panels overlap there is a little rust in between. I cant afford (nor want) to get the car dipped so is there much I can do about this rust? Im got as much hammerite in as possible, then seam sealered...is this ok? Can I use waxoyl to paint the inside floors? Thanks!

Fumes
Hi I recently had a similar problem - it was the breather pipe that exits from the top of the petrol tank. It should go down the back of the tank and and out of an exit in the boot floor panel - mine didnt and it wasnt till the headaches got bad that I finally figured it out!

Floor Problem
If the floors not too bad you could get it patched very cheaply. With the sill I would be inclined to replace it completely - that way you know youre safe for a few years. The sill panel costs about £20, fitting it shouldnt cost more than 30 or 40. Or invest that money in a welder and do it yourself!

mini fuel tank retaining strap bracket
Hi there i have a 1991 mini cooper which i have started to restore after previous owners had started. They removed the rear floor panel so have replaced it but i am now missing the fuel tank strap retaining bracket that is welded to the boot floor, does anyone have a picture or part number of this item to allow me to continue , help would be much appreciated.

Weldin a new a panel and sill
The sill is relatively straightforward, though the outer seams are much easier to do if you have a spot welder. The A panel is trickier as there's an awful lot of stuff going on behind it, but it's not rocket science and well within the scope of the first-timer. You'll need some spare sheet metal (a) to practice on and (b) to make patches for all the rust holes you'll find in the floor, inner wings, etc.

Panel replacement - which order
I have a 1991 1275 Cooper with rust everywhere. What's the best order to tackle the panel replacement? Body is braced. Needs heel, inner/outer sills, doorstep, part floor, A panel, and front panel.
